What I do

The Principle of the Thing

The bottom line of many people’s need for an attorney is to convince someone else they are right on the principle (crux) of the problem. The law, however, does not always speak to the principle. I work with clients to understand when there is a legal argument made versus a moral, ethical or other kind of argument. I assist to find a meeting of the minds on the principle of thing as well as any legal arguments that can be made to support my client’s position.

Wills and Other Life Documents

Having the will to make you will is a true challenge. People know they need life documents (Will, Powers of Attorney, and Living Will), but the process to create them is daunting for so many people.

I have worked in health care my entire adult life. I am also a cancer survivor. I bring a compassionate and understanding ear to developing a personalized set of life documents. My goal is not to produce a document from a template saved on a desktop, but understand what each client is looking for in their Wills, Power of Attorneys, and other agreements. I take time to talk with each client to ensure that your specific wishes are accurately represented at each step of the life documentation process

Not Every Conflict is a Catastrophe

Not all conflict is bad. Conflict is simply a difference of opinions, facts or outcomes. The goal of my legal work is to reduce conflict to a point that people can manage their day to lives. Whether that is creating a contract to outline terms of an agreement or planning for the distribution of an estate after death, I want to help people work through life’s difficult issues.

Questions welcome

My practice is meant to be accessible for people of all backgrounds. I want clients to understand the law and how it applies to them. I’m not going to speak Latin, and I welcome questions and discussion. If something doesn’t make sense, you have a right to ask for an explanation. I’m here to provide that clarity of the law.

The best time to have an attorney is when you don’t need one. A strange saying, but true. When an agreement between two business partners goes sour, advice of an attorney is sought. By that time, there may not be much to do but pick up the pieces. By having Diane help you to formulate or review a contract before you sell a piece of furniture or enter into a lawn service agreement may save a lot of problems down the road. It is especially good to have agreements in place when doing business with a friend. If the arrangement runs into problems in the future, you can rely on the drafted document to guide the solution, and often save the friendship.

Conflict Resolution

$200 /hour

Many disagreements can be worked out by having a guided discussion between the two parties (mediation). Diane offers her skills as an experienced mediator to help parties solve problems and create new agreements to move forward in their personal or professional dealings. Remember, all discussion would have to occur within any existing contract and applicable laws; Diane can help research and interpret those as well.
